The French forward has rarely featured for Leeds in recent months.

Leeds United booked their place in the EFL Cup quarter finals last night with a tremendous penalty shootout win against Norwich City at Elland Road.

One man who thoroughly enjoyed taking in the game was former Leeds head coach Neil Redfearn.

Speaking to TV Yorkshire about the game this week he commented on the heroics of Italian goalkeeper Marco Silvestri. He was excellent in the penalty shootout and Redfearn called one of his saves ‘world class’:

“He is a fantastic shot-stopper. He had a good game through the game as well Marco. He took his opportunity really well.

“All the penalty saves were good saves but in particular the third one was a world-class stop.”

But whilst Silvestri got plenty of praise, another forgotten Massimo Cellino man also played a part. Souleymane Doukara has barely got a look in this season but the big front man came on in last night’s fixture and Redfearn was very impressed:

“I thought he played his part really well and you know when you get Souleymane Doukara putting himself about like that that then you’ve got a player because we know he’s got ability.

“It was a real shift that he put in and whichever permutation played up there as front players (did well). Antonsson put a shift in, Chris Wood’s in a real rich vein of form. I liked the look of Doukara and Wood up there as well, it looked a good pairing for the half hour they were together.”

The Frenchman has played just five times this season for Leeds and looked to be out of the picture completely.

But he does always give his best when called upon and the 25-year-old put in a bullish performance to remind Garry Monk of the contribution he can make to the team in the busy weeks to come in the Championship.

Another option that can only help Leeds United’s hopes of success.
