Mateusz Klich looked a class act for Leeds United in midweek.

Neil Redfearn has told TV Yorkshire that Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich was “absolutely outstanding” against Burnley on Tuesday and believes he is in contention for starting more Championship matches as a result.

Leeds moved into the fourth round of the League Cup with a penalty shootout win over the Premier League side at Turf Moor, after the game ended 2-2 in regulation.

The 27-year-old played the full two hours in Lancashire in what was arguably his best game for the Whites since joining from FC Twente in the summer.

It has been a slow start to life with United for the Poland international, who missed a chunk of early-season games due to injury, but Klich, yet to start a Championship game for the league leaders, certainly looked the real deal in midweek and Redfearn suggests he is in the picture to start when Ipswich Town visit Elland Road on Saturday.

“I thought there was some stellar performances, particularly Klich. I thought he was superb. He’s gone under the radar – his performances have been okay – but I thought he was absolutely outstanding [against Burnley],” he told TV Yorkshire.

“I thought he drove Leeds forward, showed real physical qualities and his passing was neat and tidy. He looked like an international player.”

Asked if he’s banging on the door for a regular first-team role in the Championship, Redfearn added: “I think he’s getting there, without a doubt.”

Thomas Christiansen has an abundance of brilliant centre-midfielders, with Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Klich battling for places, but the latter certainly showed why he is a 10-cap Poland international and it’ll be interesting to see if the Leeds boss selects him from the start on Saturday.
