Gaetano Berardi played well for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday.

The former Leeds head coach believes that Berardi – who is a very versatile defender and can operate as a right-back, left-back or centre-back – was brilliant in the Whites’ 1-0 win against Wednesday in the Yorkshire derby at Elland Road on Saturday evening.
Against the Owls, the 30-year-old was strong at the back and filled in nicely for Liam Cooper, who could not start the game due to an injury he suffered.
According to WhoScored, the defender – who was making his first start since October 2018 – had a pass accuracy of 74.2%, won three headers, and made two tackles and one clearance.
Redfearn said about Berardi on BBC Radio Leeds: “I thought he was magnificent. He wasn’t magnificent as in spraying passes, it was just a real dogged determination to do the bit that he needed to do to prop up that side opposite Pontus Jansson.
“His defending, his reading of the game, his bravery, we know all about that, but he was sensible in his defending. He didn’t take chances at the back.”

Promotion challenge
The win against Wednesday means that Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 82 points from 42 matches.
The West Yorkshire outfit are four points behind leaders Norwich City and three ahead of third-placed Sheffield United.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have automatic promotion to the Premier League in their own hands now.
