The former Leeds United boss praised the “big fella”.
Neil Redfearn has told TV Yorkshire that Conor Shaughnessy posted an “outstanding performance” for Leeds United on Tuesday night.
Leeds were held to their second successive 0-0 draw in the Championship after drawing with Fulham last night, following a drab affair with Preston North End on the weekend.
Liam Cooper and Matthew Pennington were both unavailable for the Whites so Thomas Christiansen was forced to give the Irish centre-back a first start at Elland Road.
And the 21-year-old did not let his manager down following a mature performance alongside Pontus Jansson in the heart of the Whites’ defence.
And Redfearn was full of praise for the youngster afterwards.
He told TV Yorkshire: “I thought it was an outstanding performance [from] the big fella. He made one or two goal-saving challenges in the second half when Fulham broke.
“He looked as though he had been playing there for a good few seasons, sot he big fella has got to take credit for that.”
Shaughnessy had enjoyed a very decent pre-season campaign for Leeds and he will feel confident that he has done enough to stay with the senior side this season, rather than go out on loan.
Leeds have been linked with signing another centre-back, following the arrival of Pennington, but the Galway-born defender might well be Christiansen’s answer.
