Leeds United won against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Championship last weekend.
Neil Redfearn has been quoted as saying by Inside Futbol that Leeds United head coach Garry Monk made the right decision in dropping Pontus Jansson last weekend.
Leeds got the better of Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at Elland Road in the Championship before the international break.
Star defender Jansson did not feature in the match, with head coach Monk suggesting to The Yorkshire Evening Post that the 26-year-old’s attitude to the build-up to the match was the reason why he was dropped.
The Sweden international centre-back has been one of Leeds’s best players so far this season, and his exclusion from the team could have backfired.
Former Leeds head coach Redfearn has praised Monk for the brave decision he took in dropping Jansson.
“Whatever has gone on has gone on and there is no one player bigger than the team,” Inside Futbol quotes Redfearn as saying.
“Obviously Garry’s made that quite clear with his actions. To be fair to Pontus Jansson, if he toes the line from here on in, fair enough, it happens.
“You get fall-outs and disagreements, but the manager’s the gaffer. He is in charge and what he says goes.That’s how it’s got to be. For me he did the right thing.”
Leeds are fourth in the Championship table at the moment with 69 points from 38 matches.
The West Yorkshire outfit will return to action next weekend when they take on Reading away from home at the Madejski Stadium.
