Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has given his view on the team’s weekend loss to Newcastle United, speaking to TV Yorkshire.

Speaking after the 2-0 loss at Elland Road, Redfearn picked out midfielder Eunan O’Kane as the Leeds player he was most impressed by.

Redfearn said: “He impresses me, every time I see him he impresses me, he’s so unsung he goes unnoticed very similar to Colback in midfield for Newcastle. He does all the simple things well and his positional play is really good, he pinches things, he’s a continuity player he keeps things going.”

Even late in the game O’Kane was still driving forward, but his attacking intent did not pay off, with Newcastle managing to keep a clean sheet in front of a packed crowd at Elland Road.

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow was largely untested and Redfearn went on express his disappointment that Leeds United striker Chris Wood was unable to have more of an impact, but argued it was not the fault of the New Zealand international.

He said: “It was a disappointing day for Chris Wood because he didn’t get any service. He got nothing, no scraps, no balls in the box and he will be disappointed because he wants to do well on the big stage, he’s having a great season he’s scoring goals for fun.”

Wood managed two shots at goal but neither landed on target in the fixture. Pontus Jansson, Eunan O’Kane, Souleymane Doukara and Luke Ayling were the only Leeds players to test Darlow, managing one effort on target each.
