Redfearn described Sheffield Wednesday as being “bang average” earlier in the season.
Former Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn
Neil Redfearn has performed a U-turn on his March prediction about Sheffield Wednesday.
The former Leeds United boss initially told Radio Yorkshire he expected Wednesday to miss out on a play-off place this season, with the Whites, Huddersfield, Reading and Fulham making up the Championship’s top six.
Seven games on, the Owls can no longer finish any lower than fifth position, with Leeds the ones to miss out – barring a miraculous set of final-day results.
In that time, Carlos Carvalhal’s side have drawn once and won six on the spin, and will go into the play-offs as the division’s form side if they avoid defeat at home to Fulham on Sunday.

And Redfearn, who described Wednesday as being “bang average” earlier in the campaign [Radio Yorkshire], believes they are now capable of going the distance.
“I thought Fulham all along, but at this moment in time I’ve just got a feeling for Sheffield Wednesday,” he told Radio Yorkshire when asked which of the four sides will be promoted.
“I think Sheffield Wednesday are going to go up.”
Should the Owls end the season in third, they’ll meet Fulham at the semi-final stage, travelling to London on Saturday tea-time.

Anything else, however, and the two sides will be kept apart – potentially – until the final at Wembley, which is due to take place three weeks on Monday, with Reading or Huddersfield their next opponents.
