Leeds United offloaded Alex Mowatt over two years ago.
Neil Redfearn has suggested on Twitter that Leeds United shouldn’t have sold Alex Mowatt.
Leeds sold the Thorp Arch academy star to Barnsley over two years ago after struggling for minutes under then-United boss Garry Monk.
The 24-year-old midfielder is an ever-present figure for the League One side this season and has started 38 games for the Tykes.
Mowatt burst on to the scene as an 18-year-old gem in 2013, and enjoyed an excellent 2014-15 campaign under Redfearn.
He netted nine times in 38 games that season, and Redfearn – who also worked with Mowatt in the development squad prior to that – said on Twitter that he’d still be a Leeds player if he was manager.
Mowatt is clearly a good footballer, but the fact that he’s in League One now tells its own story.
He hasn’t kicked on from the promise he showed much earlier in his career and time will tell whether he ever gets back to that level.
