The summer signing was much improved in the EFL Cup fixture.

Leeds United’s former boss Neil Redfearn has been praising the performance of Kemar Roofe in the EFL Cup win against Blackburn Rovers yesterday.

The summer signing from Oxford United has struggled to find his best form for Leeds since arriving in the summer.

His performance against Blackburn however was a big improvement. He played a part in the winning goal scored by Chris Wood and in general put in a much better performance than he has been recently.

Redfearn, who managed the first-team on two separate occasions and was in charge of the youth set-up, was clearly impressed.

He had this to say about Roofe’s performance to TV Yorkshire:

“The boys got ability there’s no doubt about it. What he doesn’t lack is effort and determination. The boys a brave boy and tries things.

“I thought he played well tonight Roofe.

“Being hypercritical he didn’t get his shots off.

“Again he was involved with the goal and that will give him confidence.”

Last season Roofe scored 26 goals in 49 games for Oxford United. But he has found the jump up from League Two to the Championship tough. He has been struggling to find the net and remains goalless from 10 games at Leeds United.

Yesterday was a much improved performance from the player but he was supposed to be bringing a major goal-threat with him.

As yet Leeds are not to see it, but hope remains high it is just a matter of time.
