Robert Green played for Leeds United against Newport County in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.

Green joined Leeds in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer after leaving Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Last season, the 37-year-old was the first-choice goalkeeper at the Whites under manager Garry Monk – who is now in charge of Championship rivals Middlesbrough – and played in all 46 league matches.

The former West Ham United goalkeeper, though, is the second-choice custodian at Elland Road at the moment and is behind summer signing Felix Wiedwald in the pecking order.
Green featured for Leeds in the second round of the EFL Cup against Newport County at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.
The Englishman conceded one goal, but he made some good saves as Thomas Christiansen’s side won the tie 5-1 to progress to the third round of the competition.

Former Leeds head coach Redfearn has suggested that he feels sorry for Green, and that he is unlucky to be in his current situation.
“I feel a bit for Rob Green because he was outstanding last season for Leeds,” Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire.
“He was one of the main reasons why he did ever so well. He is unlucky not to be in goal regularly in the Championship season.”
