Should Leeds United have signed better players in the summer transfer window?

Leeds manager Neil Redfearn encourages his side during the Sky Bet Championship match between Reading and Leeds United at Madejski Stadium on February 10, 2015 in Reading, England.

Neil Redfearn has criticised Leeds United’s recruitment in the summer transfer window, as quoted by The Football League Paper.

The former Leeds head coach believes that the West Yorkshire outfit did not sign the right kind of players.

Among the players that the Whites brought to Elland Road in the summer of 2017 were midfielders Mateusz Klich, goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald and attacking midfielder Samuel Saiz.

“I am just looking at the bigger picture,” Redfearn told The Football League Paper. “The bigger picture for me, if I am honest, is that I look at the signings in the summer and there are not enough of them who understand this division and it’s massive.

“I think they have all got ability, they all offer a bit of something, like Saiz and Alioski at times.

“We have seen good stuff from [Pablo] Hernandez at times but real nitty-gritty horrible stuff that needs to be done, there is not enough in the eleven that does that week in week out. I don’t blame the players; you have got to look at who recruited them.”

Leeds are not doing well at the moment and some of the new signings do need to step up. However, it is too early to give verdict on the Whites’ recruitment in the summer of 2017.

After all, every team goes through a bad spell and every player had his ups and downs. Moreover, the new signings do need some time to settle into life at Leeds and adapt to the Championship.

One should not be surprised if Leeds pick up all three points from their Championship match against Bristol City this weekend.
