The Leeds United hitman was the hero again this weekend.

Neil Redfearn has told TV Yorkshire that Chris Wood’s goalscoring record for Leeds United this season is “phenomenal”.

Wood was the hero again for Leeds on Saturday as his 35th-minute effort proved enough for the Whites to beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at Elland Road.

The victory extended Leeds’ three-match winning streak to four, with the New Zealand striker netting in all four wins.

Overall, the 24-year-old has now netted seven times from 11 outings in all competitions this season – a very decent return for a striker who very much divided opinion among United fans earlier in the campaign.

Slowly but surely, Wood must be winning over his detractors, and one of them this season, Redfearn, has admitted that he cannot argue with the forward’s figures so far.

He told TV Yorkshire when asked about Wood’s record: “It’s phenomenal for a goalscorer. It’s like anything else.

“There’s a couple of penalties in there but the bottom line is that he’s a gunslinger and they don’t bother about how they get the goals, and his goal record is excelent at this moment in time.”

Indeed it is excellent, and Leeds fans, and of course manager Garry Monk, will be hoping their marksman can maintain his red-hot form on Tuesday.

Leeds, who now sit 12th in the Championship table, visit Bristol City, and Monk’s side are the stage where their result hinge on whether Wood turns up.

Inconsistency was a criticism levelled at him earlier in the campaign, but with four in his last four, he seems determined to right those wrongs.
