Leeds United are second in the Championship table at the moment.

Leeds manager Neil Redfearn looks on ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between Reading and Leeds United at Madejski Stadium on February 10, 2015 in Reading, England.

Neil Redfearn has praised Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa on BBC Radio Leeds for using young players this season, but he seems to have also criticised the club.

The former Leeds head coach believes that Bielsa has done a very good job in promoting young players and using them when there have been injuries.

Redfearn, though, has suggested that Bielsa should not have been in this position, and that he should have been given a bigger squad.

Redfearn said on BBC Radio Leeds about Leeds’s squad: “I think what Marcelo Bielsa has done unbelievably well this season is he has covered for certain scenarios with younger players and has been brave enough and clever enough to integrate them and put them in to get Leeds out of a problem at times, particularly when we have had centre-halves missing, at times when we have had wide players missing and forward players missing.

“But in the great scheme of things, if you are a top club, you shouldn’t be in that position. Your squad should be strong enough and big enough to be able to cope, and I think that’s where the gripe is maybe, where the problem’s coming.”

Problem for Leeds United?

Bielsa likes to have a small squad and likes intensity among his players, and that is one of the main reasons why Leeds are doing so well.

The likes of Kemar Roofe, Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich have improved, and Bielsa has also added versatility among the young players.

True, Leeds do not have a large squad and injuries have affected them at times this season, but the Elland Road faithful should trust Bielsa and in his plans.

Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 57 points from 30 matches, level on points with leaders Norwich City and second on goal difference.
