24 hours after the transfer deadline, Leeds United made the surprise decision to release Sol Bamba.
The centre-back had slipped to fourth choice under Garry Monk, but given the timing, the news was still unexpected, with no time to sign a replacement barring a free agent addition.

Former manager Neil Redfearn has expressed his bemusement at the move, and backs Bamba to quickly find a new club.
Speaking to Radio Yorkshire on Wednesday night at 6pm, Redfearn said: “It is a strange thing to happen, I know people have their opinions but during my time at the club he brought us pace and athleticism and that is so important in this division.
“Players are only human, they make mistakes. I think he will get a club, I can see him getting picked up. We miss mobility now at the back.”
Leeds originally signed Bamba on loan from Italian club Palermo during Redfearn’s spell in charge, and the defender signed permanently later under the management at the time of Uwe Rosler.

Leeds have loanee Kyle Bartley, Liam Cooper, and another loanee Pontus Jansson available at centre-back, while Luke Ayling could potentially fill in at the position.
Garry Monk also has to pick a new captain ahead of the Huddersfield Town clash this weekend, which he is likely to address later at his press conference on Thursday.
