Do Leeds United need another striker in January? Neil Redfearn says so.
Neil Redfearn has told Radio Yorkshire that he believes Leeds United will sign another striker in the January transfer window.
Leeds have been a little short on firepower in the Championship this season.
Of course, Chris Wood has netted seven times in all competitions – and five in the Championship – but beyond that the Whites have struggled for goals.
Striker Marcus Antonsson, a £2 million signing from Kalmar, has netted one league goal in 512 minutes of football, while Kemar Roofe, who joined for £3 million from Oxford United, has not been given chances to shine up front as of yet.
Only six sides in the Championship have scored less goals than Leeds’ haul of 12 so far, and ex-United boss Redfearn says another marksman should be the priority this winter.
“I think he will look for that [another centre forward]”, Redfearn said on Radio Yorkshire. “From my experience, the sides that have done well at this level when I’ve played, managers always go for strikers so they can change off the bench, so they have competition for places.
“At the end of the day, if you’ve got people who can score goals then you are always in with a chance of winning.
“So I definitely think he will look to bring in a striker to add competition or to give Chris Wood some help.”
Garry Monk’s side are 11th in the division and visit Derby County this Saturday aiming to maintain their excellent run of form.
