Derby County have snapped up Liverpool’s Harry Wilson on loan.
Liverpool fans may be focused on the breaking news about the club’s pursuit of Roma goalkeeper Alisson today, but they did also complete one outgoing this afternoon.
Winger Harry Wilson has been in demand, with a host of Championship clubs looking to take the Reds talent on loan for the season – and his destination has now been settled.
Liverpool have struck a deal to send Wilson to Derby County for the 2018-19 season, with new Rams boss Frank Lampard landing something of a coup by beating off a host of clubs to sign the Welsh international.
Wilson, 21, has come up through the ranks at Anfield having joined Liverpool’s ranks in 2005, and after a loan spell with Crewe Alexandra, he really made a name for himself last season.
The wide man went out on loan to Hull City in January and lit up the Championship with seven goals and three assists in just 13 games, helping the Tigers stay away from the relegation zone.
Wilson returned to Liverpool and impressed in pre-season amid interest from the likes of Celtic, Rangers and Leeds United, but Derby have won the race for his signature today.
Now, pundit and former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has taken to Twitter to offer his view on the deal, suggesting that he wanted to see Wilson head to a Premier League club, having already shown that he is a top Championship player.
Mellor added that he thinks Derby boss Lampard will help Wilson develop, but he would have preferred to see Wilson in the top flight in order for Liverpool to see how he copes in the top flight.
