Neil McCann has told Sky Sports that he does not believe that Moussa Dembele will be able to break Henrik Larsson’s Celtic goalscoring record.

Larsson netted 53 goals in one season for Celtic back in the 2000/01 campaign, when he was at his prolific best.

The Swede reached that total in just 50 appearances, but with Dembele on fire of late there have been suggestions that the 20-year-old could catch that tally this term.

Dembele has hit 31 goals in total this season, and he appears to be going from strength to strength in Rodgers’ first-team.

Dembele has scored 11 times in his last five appearances, but McCann does not believe that he will sustain his current form for the rest of the season.

“I don’t think so and, listen, I don’t think he’s as good as Henrik Larsson,” McCann said, when asked whether Dembele could catch Larsson’s Celtic goalscoring record.

“You’ve got to remember Larsson was scoring these goals when Rangers were exceptional again.”

Dembele’s brilliant form for Celtic has not gone unnoticed, with the youngster now linked with a host of top European clubs.

Dembele is expected to start in Celtic’s next match, which comes against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup at the weekend.
