The Ibrox winger wasn’t at his best for Rangers at the weekend.

Pundit Neil McCann has criticised Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo in the wake of Sunday’s match against Hearts, The Scottish Sun report.

McCann knows a thing or two about shining in the position at Ibrox, winning nine trophies in five years at the club during his playing days.

With the Gers chasing more silverware this season, the outspoken pundit thinks Steven Gerrard’s side need to do more with their natural ability.

He was left disappointed with the application of the team at Tynecastle, with the away side only managing a 1-1 draw.

It’s Ojo he’s singled out as a player who could be offering more.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, McCann said: “They didn’t do enough to beat Hearts. There were so many occasions when Rangers got into wide areas, but did nothing with it in terms of quality.

“Sheyi Ojo doesn’t do enough for me at times with the quality he has.”

Also claiming that Rangers need to start grinding out victories even when playing poorly, like Celtic, the former winger clearly feels his former side have a lot of work to do to be Scottish Premiership contenders.

Is Ojo under performing?

The Liverpool loanee has made a decent contribution to Rangers’ season so far. With five goals and four assists in 18 appearances, he certainly hasn’t been a signing dud.

However, there is a definite consistency probleem. He’s been given lots of opportunities by Gerrard, but hasn’t quite hit his stride fully. He just can’t seem to string together three or four exceptional performances in a row.

If he’s to remain a regular pick in the first-team then he needs to improve his direct goal contribution and look more lively in general.

Sheyi Ojo of Rangers FC acknowledges the crowd after the UEFA Europa League group G match between Rangers FC and Feyenoord at Ibrox Stadium on September 19, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

As McCann notes, he has the ability. His goal against Feyenoord in the Europa League was proof enough he can be a stellar performer on the big stage.

However, with Ryan Kent returning to fitness and Greg Stewart sharp in recent weeks then there’s potentially better options for his manager to pursue.

Can he rise to the competition and fulfil his potential? Rangers need him to.
