Former Ibrox winger Neil McCann has told BBC Sport that Nottingham Forest-owned Rangers central defender Joe Worrall was frightened against Celtic.

Worrall, signed on loan from Forest in the Championship in England, was in action for Rangers in the Old Firm derby against Celtic away from home at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

Former Rangers and Scotland international winger McCann was following the match, and he was not impressed with the display produced by the 22-year-old centre-back.

McCann believes that the youngster looked shaky, and that Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard frightened him.

McCann told BBC Sport: “I think Joe Worrall looked shaky. He was in bother all the way through the first half. Edouard frightened him. He didn’t look comfortable.

“When Gerrard sits with Mark Allan and his staff in the cold light of today he will say that he expects more from his players.”

Stats

Worrall joined Rangers on a season-long loan deal from Forest in the summer of 2018.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old centre-back has made 18 starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season.

The loss to the Hoops means that Steven Gerrard’s side are as many as 13 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic in second place.

It is very, very unlikely that Rangers will catch Celtic, who look set to clinch the Scottish Premiership title for the eighth season in a row.
