Celtic will be hoping to overturn an unlikely two-goal deficit against Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday.
BBC Sport pundit Neil McCann has stated that Brendan Rodgers won’t tolerate any form of ‘negativity’ from his Celtic players ahead of their Europa League return leg clash against Valencia on Thursday.
The Bhoys are 2-0 down from the first leg and need to produce a big all-round performance if they are to progress through to the next round.
It is going to be a big ask for the Scottish Premiership leaders, who will have to beat a team that have only lost four matches in La Liga over the course of the season.
Former Rangers man McCann offered his thoughts on Celtic’s trip to Spain as he believes they are in for a ‘tough’ night at the Mestalla.
“I don’t think anyone at Celtic would be allowed to air that type of negativity,” McCann told BBC Sport. “It’s almost like surrendering. I don’t think that would be tolerated at all by Brendan Rodgers.
“If they do get the first goal then as the game goes on I think it’s extremely hard to go to a team like Valencia and win the game. You’re asking them to score three goals and concede none, which is going to be really tough.”
In the first game, Celtic were lacklustre and poor in possession and if they produce the same performance then they will be well and truly punished.
There is an obvious gulf in class and finances between both sides, but Rodgers will be hoping his team can show some improvement in Europe because it is a competition he really hasn’t made his mark on.
During their last match, they scored a last-minute winner against Kilmarnock in the Premiership and they will be hoping to take that momentum with them to Spain.
If Rodgers side do perform a miracle then it will no doubt be one of the greatest performances under their highly-rated Northern Irishman boss.
