Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has made it clear that he is not happy with Scotland boss Steve Clarke regarding the injury suffered by Ryan Jack on international duty, and Celtic chief Neil Lennon has given his take on the matter.

Jack picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Scotland and was sent back to Rangers early.

Rangers manager Gerrard has said that he is “annoyed” that the 27-year-old defensive midfielder did a double session and ran 11km just 48 hours after the Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.

Celtic boss Lennon has given his take on the controversy, and he can understand both sides of the story.

Lennon told The Glasgow Evening Times: “I wouldn’t have liked to have done it as a player, put it that way. As a player, a double session two days later? No. [But] you don’t know the intensity of what was put out there.

“[Running 11km] is a lot. I have a certain sympathy. I don’t know how much my players ran, I’ll have to ask them. It’s unfortunate in that aspect I suppose.

“But Steve has a job to do as well. Our boys came back fine. Steve has got two weeks to try and get his methods across.”

Back in action

It must be disappointing for Rangers and manager Gerrard that Jack is injured, but there is nothing that can be done now.

The Gers will now have to focus on league action, as they take on Livingston at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Rangers will head into the match as favourites, and they will be determined to bounce back from the loss to Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership last weekend.
