James Keatings believes Lennon can attract the best to Easter Road
Speaking to the Daily Mail, James Keatings believes new manager Neil Lennon’s reputation will be able to attract a higher calibre of player to Easter Road.
Lennon took over at Hibernian less than two weeks ago, replacing cup winning manager Alan Stubbs who elected to take over at English Championship side Rotherham at the beginning of the month.
And Keatings, who had played under Lennon in a Development Squad side at Celtic before arriving at Hibs after spells at Hamilton and Hearts, believes his new manager will be able to attract the best to the Edinburgh club.
James Keatings (L) played for Hamilton and Hearts before joining Hibs
“Obviously a manager like him who has done what he has in the game can attract players. He is a winner and hopefully we’ll see some big players.
“He has managed with the top team in the country, he has managed in the Champions League in the last 16 so he brings a lot to the changing room.
“I think he knows himself how much he can improve certain players and I am sure if he sits down and chats to them he’ll put that across to them. If they think he can make them better then hopefully that can keep them at the club.”
Hibernian’s Jason Cummings (R) could leave Hibs this summer
His reputation may prove vital not only for future signings but also to keep his best players at the club, with Jason Cummings thought to be wanting a move away.
Lennon is expected to meet with Cummings in France to persuade the forward to dismiss the idea of leaving the club.
Will Lennon succeed in the Europa League?
The former Bolton Wanderers manager will have to add players to his current Hibs squad, especially with European football on its way to Edinburgh.
Hibs’ cup win means they will enter the Europa League in the Second Qualifying Round for the first time in three years, when they failed to make it past that stage.
The draw for the Second Qualifying Round will take place on Monday 20th June.
