Neil Lennon wants to sign Celtic’s Scott Bain

Scott Bain made his debut for Celtic in the Old-Firm derby at the weekend.

Hibernian boss Neil Lennon has told Deadline News that he wants to sign Celtic loanee Scott Bain at the end of the season.

Bain joined Celtic on loan from Dundee in the January transfer window, and the 26-year-old was required to make his debut against Rangers at the weekend, and he impressed.

Bain helped Celtic pick up a 3-2 win at Ibrox, and he made no mistakes in a fierce atmosphere.

And Bain’s impressive performance could now see Celtic face competition for the goalkeeper’s signature.

“There is an interest [in signing Bain] from us and we made sure Scotty realised that before he left [in January],” Lennon said.

“Even in the short time he was here we were very impressed with the way he was around the place and his attitude in training and the attributes he has.”

It is not clear whether Hibs will have a clear path to sign Bain, or whether Celtic will try to sign him permanently.

Bain has played just once for Celtic, but his debut showing has started to put pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ other goalkeeping options.

Celtic have both Dorus de Vries and Craig Gordon to pick from, but neither have been entirely convincing this season.

And it may be that Celtic need to use Lennon’s words as a warning, as they now know they will face competition if they want to snap up Bain for the longer-term.
