Neil Lennon wants Mikael Lustig stay at Celtic

Mikael Lustig is out of contract at Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the summer of 2019.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Mikael Lustig could stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

As reported in The Scottish Sun, Lustig is out of contract at Celtic in the summer of 2019.

The report has also claimed that the Glasgow giants can activate an extra year if they want to.

The 32-year-old right-back has been on the books of the Hoops since January 2012 and has been brilliant for the Glasgow giants over the years.

Lennon, who replaced Brendan Rodgers as the Celtic manager until the end of the season last week, has suggested that he wants the Sweden international defender to be at Celtic Park next season.

Lennon told The Scottish Sun about Lustig: “I’m not writing off Mikael. I know what he’s capable of and I know what a player he is.

“What Mikael has done for the last seven or eight years is play non-stop football, whether it be 40 or 50 games a season, European qualifiers, World Cup qualifiers, cup finals.

“He’s played every game possible and eventually the fatigue or stiffness or whatever you want to call it creeps in.

“But he’s been a top player for this club and for his country and he’s still got plenty to offer Celtic.”

Scott Brown stay

Meanwhile, Sir Kenny Dalglish has outlined the importance of Scott Brown staying at Celtic in The Sunday Post.

As announced on the Scottish Premiership club’s official website on January 31, 2019, the Scottish midfielder has committed his future to the Bhoys until 2021.Celtic legend Dalglish has outlined why it is important that Brown is still at the club following the departure of Rodgers recently.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “The other plus point for Neil and Celtic is that Scott Brown is still there. Neil had him as his captain during his first spell from 2010 until 2014 and he really brought the best out of the midfielder.

“There is clearly mutual respect there, and you could see from his performance at Tynecastle just how hungry Scott is to keep delivering success. He is fully motivated and committed.”
