Commons is due to return to Celtic from his emergency loan at Hibs on 15 January.
Hibernian manager Neil Lennon has told reporters, as quoted by the Daily Mail, that he wants Kris Commons to stay at the club beyond the terms of his loan deal and says he will talk with the player next week.
Commons joined Hibs on an emergency loan deal from the Bhoys last month after finding himself frozen out at Parkhead under Brendan Rodgers.
He reunited with his former Hoops boss Lennon at Easter Road and has impressed in three appearances so far as his fitness returns.
He made his most decisive contribution yet to the club’s promotion push on New Year’s Eve when he scored a late match-winning free-kick at Falkirk.
The 33-year-old’s spell at Hibs is due to end on 15 January, but Lennon has admitted that he is desperate to keep the former Scotland international for a great deal longer.
Lennon said, via the Daily Mail: “I’d like to keep him a lot longer, but that’s between the two clubs and what Kris’ thoughts are as well. The loan is up on January 15, so that only gives us to midweek next week.
“He’s a player I’ve known for a long time. I worked with him at Celtic for three-and-a-half, four seasons and we know his qualities. He hadn’t played a lot of football before he came here and there was a little bit of ring-rust, but you can see more and more his match sharpness coming back, and he can win games on his own.
“We haven’t discussed his future yet. I’ll sit down with Kris after the weekend and see how he feels, and try to take things forward from there.”
Commons’ Celtic deal is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning that he would be free to negotiate a move to other clubs.
His wage demands are likely to be a stumbling block but Lennon will hope that his history with the star, and Commons’ own desire to stay in Scotland and play regular football will allow a deal to be struck.
