Nottingham Forest wanted to sign John McGinn from Neil Lennon’s Hibernian in the summer transfer window.
According to The Scotsman, Forest in the Championship in England were interested in signing McGinn in the summer.
It has been reported that Mark Warburton’s side made a bid in the region of £1.5 million for the 22-year-old midfielder on transfer deadline day.
Hibs manager Lennon has explained why the Scottish Premiership club did not accept the Reds’ bid.
The former Celtic and Bolton Wanderers manager has also suggested that McGinn wanted to join Forest.
“We had a valuation of the player, we engaged with Nottingham Forest,” Lennon told The Scotsman. “They made a couple more bids after the initial one, which was nowhere near good enough.
“The second and third ones were more respectable but they still didn’t come anywhere near the valuation we have of the player.
“I was always confident we would keep John. It puts us in a good light in terms of how healthy the club is financially that they don’t have to go chasing the money.
“I think he wanted us to engage with Forest and we did that, and he was happy with the outcome.”
Forest are one of the biggest clubs in England and are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.
One can understand why McGinn wanted to join the Reds in the summer transfer window, but it is positive for the Hibernian fans that he is happy to remain at the Scottish Premiership club for now.
Hibs are aiming to finish second in the league table this season after winning promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
