Celtic may be looking for a new striker in January.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has told The Scottish Sun that he may look to bring in a new striker when the January transfer window opens.
The Bhoys are in action against St Mirren tonight, and will be looking to build on Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen with another dominant performance.
Much will be expected of Odsonne Edouard, as is often the case with the in-form Celtic striker, but even more so tonight given the lack of other striking options.
Leigh Griffiths isn’t ready to return yet, and Vakoun Issouf Bayo picked up a knock in training on Monday, meaning he will miss tonight’s game.
That makes Edouard the only recognised striker at Lennon’s disposal right now, which isn’t exactly an ideal situation given how much Celtic rely on the Frenchman.
Now, Lennon has admitted that Celtic may well move for a new striker in January, as the anxiety about a potential injury to Edouard is too strong, and another new face needs to be brought in.
“It may be an area we’ll look at. We are a little bit short there with only one currently at the minute, Edouard, who is fully fit,” said Lennon. “You get anxiety around Edouard because he is a quality player and you don’t want to lose him at any time. You don’t want to lose Odsonne for any games because he is so pivotal to the way we play,” he added.
One player already linked with a move to Parkhead is Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu, with West London Sport claiming that Celtic are interested in signing the powerhouse target man.
Ikpeazu may well be the kind of player that Lennon wants to add depth to his attack, but it may come as a blow for Bayo, who risks slipping down the pecking order less than a year since signing from Dunajska Streda.
