Celtic boss Neil Lennon has told The Scotsman that he felt Jonjoe Kenny was ‘very good’ on his debut last night.

The Bhoys needed a new right back having sold Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the January window, but had to stay patient.

Celtic swooped late on deadline day to sign Everton full back Kenny on loan for the rest of the season, handing him a big move to Parkhead.

Kenny started immediately, featuring in Celtic’s 4-0 win over Kilmarnock on Tuesday night as the Bhoys got back on track.

Scott Brown, an Odsonne Edouard brace and a strike from Albian Ajeti handed Celtic a huge win having been beaten by St Mirren just days ago.

Celtic fans hailed Kenny’s performance, and Lennon has now joined in by praising the Everton loanee.

Lennon suggested that Kenny played ‘really well’ on his debut, picking out his attacking play and his composure as particular highlights.

Lennon added that he likes Kenny’s attitude, adding that he is a ‘gritty little hardy man’, which will go down well with Everton and Celtic fans.

“Jonjoe played very well on his debut,” said Lennon. “We had to be patient to get a right-back in after Frimpong left and that puts Ajer back in there. Jonjoe knows the position, is a good defender and I thought he was very good going forward. He was very calm and looked like he’d been playing with us all season, even though he’d only trained with us for a day.”

“I was delighted with his performance. I quite like his attitude and his enthusiasm for the game. He’s a gritty little hardy man and I thought he defended his position very well,” he added.
