Kristoffer Ajer could miss the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox, suggests Neil Lennon.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has told BBC Sport that Kristoffer Ajer could miss the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox this weekend.

Ajer suffered an injury during Celtic’s game against AIK away from home in Sweden on Thursday evening.

The 21-year-old central defender limped off early in the second leg of the Europa League round playoff tie.

The Norway international, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder and has also been deployed as a right-back this season, has established himself as an important player for the Hoops.

Celtic manager Lennon has said that Ajer could miss the Scottish Premiership game against bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers this weekend, but he is confident that Odsonne Edouard will be fit despite the striker also suffering an injury against AIK.

Lennon told BBC Sport: “Odsonne just came off with a bit of cramp. It’s not a hamstring thankfully, he’s walking about. He should be fine for Sunday. Ajer has a groin strain, so he is very doubtful.”

Blow for Celtic

If Ajer is not fit for the game against Rangers, then it will be a blow for Celtic, who have not exactly been great defensively this season.

Rangers will fancy their chances against the Hoops, especially as the game is at Ibrox.
