Celtic were reportedly interested in Hibernian star John McGinn.

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Hibernian at Celtic Park Stadium on September 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

John McGinn scored twice for Neil Lennon’s side as Hibernian managed a 2-2 draw against Celtic in the Scottish Premier League at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

After the match, Lennon said that McGinn’s performance was “absolutely perfect” in the second half against Celtic.

He was full of praise for the 22-year-old, saying he typifies what a modern day midfield player is all about.

Lennon added that McGinn is now worth a “lot more than” £5 million.

“But I thought he was absolutely perfect in the second-half,” said Lennon, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

“He drove the game, broke the play up and scored two magnificent goals and nearly created one from a corner.

“His performance is what you would want from a modern midfield player. I said he was worth £5 million a couple of weeks ago – he’s worth a lot more now.”

Celtic showed great interest in signing the Hibs star in the summer. Back in July, reports emerged that the Bhoys were plotting a move to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the player, and lauded him as ‘the type of player you love as a manager’ following a Scottish Cup clash with Edinburgh rivals Hearts in the second half of last season.

The Daily Record claimed in May that Celtic were preparing a £1.5 million move for McGinn. However, his price has gone up, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic make a move for him again next summer.

Former Hibernian forward Tam McManus has recently suggested on Twitter that McGinn would be a good long-term replacement of Scott Brown at Celtic Park.
