Neil Lennon was waxing lyrical about Celtic right-back Mikael Lustig this past weekend.

The Sweden defender opened the scoring in a 3-0 win at Aberdeen as the Hoops clinched their eighth successive Premiership title.

Lennon signed the 32-year-old on a Bosman during his first stint as Celtic boss back in 2012.

Lustig is out of contract at Parkhead next month, but the Northern Irish manager has brought him back into the fold since replacing Brendan Rodgers on an interim basis.

And going by what Lennon said about his signing, the veteran will surely be offered a new deal in Glasgow if Celtic hire the 47-year-old on a permanent basis.

He told Celtic’s official YouTube channel: “He’s a brilliant player who’s just won his eighth title. He was a free transfer from Rosenborg! He’s an outstanding player, not only on the field but in the dressing room as well.”

Lennon is obviously a huge fan of Lustig, but you wonder if the club may have different plans, considering he hasn’t been offered an extension yet.

But if Lennon gets the job, he’ll be calling the shots and based on the above comments, there’s a strong chance that Lustig – on £24k-a-week at the moment [Daily Star] – will be sticking around.
