Neil Lennon has praised Rangers-bound Jordan Jones following his performances for Northern Ireland during their Euro 2020 qualifiers over the international break.

The Celtic manager admitted that it ‘doesn’t please’ him that the 24-year-old, who guided his country to two wins agaisnt Belarus and Estonia, has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Gers.

As reported by Sky Sports, winger Jones will make the switch from Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock to Ibrox in the summer after agreeing on a deal during the winter transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football during their coverage of Northern Ireland v Belarus (24/03/2019 at 9:55 pm), Lennon was in awe of what Jones can bring to the table.

“He’s been very, very good in Scotland over the last couple of years hence why he’s signed a pre-contract with Rangers which doesn’t please me, obviously because he’s such a good player,” Lennon told Sky Sports.

Later in the show, Lennon stated: “He’s a full-backs nightmare because he can go both ways and he’s positive. The first thing in his mind is to take people on. To give people the width. He’s a good player, he’s a good player!”

If Lennon is still Celtic boss next season then Jones will be one of the players that will be looking to stop the Bhoys’ Premiership title charge because he will no doubt be one of the attacking threats Steven Gerrard will have at his disposal.

Over the course of this season for Kilmarnock, the Middlesbrough-born player has played 27 league games, scoring four goals and supplying the same amount of assists [transfermarkt].

He is a key player for Killie at club level and is arguably an even more important player for Michael O’Neill on the international stage as they bid to reach the European Championships next year.

Two wins from two helps their cause, but the tougher tests await Northern Ireland, with Germany and the rejuvenated Holland also in their group.
