Celtic narrowly beat Dundee 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has told Celtic TV that he thought Odsonne Edouard ‘didn’t play great’ in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Dundee, but popped up with the all important winner.
The Bhoys moved another step closer to clinching an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title by beating Dundee 1-0 on Sunday, thanks to a last-gasp goal from Edouard.
Celtic travelled to Dens Park knowing that a win would give them one hand on the title, after second-placed Rangers only managed a 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Lennon watched on as his Celtic side toiled away, unable to break down a resolute Dundee team, who looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw before suffering late heartbreak deep into the controversial six minutes of added time.
James Forrest skipped to the byline before pulling back for Edouard to stroke home a 96th minute winner, sending Celtic 10 points clear at the top of the table heading into the international break.
That doesn’t exactly tell the full story of Edouard’s afternoon, as he was completely ineffectual for most of the game, with some feeling that Celtic were lacking a real centre forward to break Dundee down.
Edouard had the last laugh with the winning goal, but boss Lennon didn’t pull any punches, admitting that he thought Edouard wasn’t great, and he must now take the responsibility of being Celtic’s record signing and main striker, but still feels it’s ‘brillian’t that he’s popping up with important goals.
“He didn’t play great… but he gets the important goal,” said Lennon. “Now that’s the responsibility he has to take on board. He’s a young player, he’s come with a huge transfer fee and he’s paid another huge chunk of that off today. Being Celtic’s main striker is a big responsibility and he’s learning as he goes along and he’s scored important goals already this season and he’s done it again today. It’s brilliant,” he added.
