Neil Lennon has suggested that it is not inevitable that he will be able to sign Scott Allan from Celtic this month.
In comments reported by the Daily Record, Neil Lennon has suggested that it is not inevitable that Hibernian will be able to complete a deal to sign Scott Allan from Celtic this month – as much as he would like to add the 27-year-old to his ranks.
The Daily Record reports that Allan is out of contract at Parkhead at the end of the season, and the Hoops are ready to allow the midfielder to leave the club this month.
Allan has not featured for Brendan Rodgers’ side at all this season, with his most recent appearance for the Bhoys coming back in May 2016. Since then, he has been on loan with Rotherham United, Dundee and Hibs.
It was at Easter Road where he enjoyed the most success. But, while Lennon conceded that he would love to bring him back to the club this month, he insisted that there is a long way to go before anything is agreed.
“There’s no inevitability about us signing Scott at all,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record. “There is a lot of talk about it and he’s a player we all admire here but it’s about availability, cost and whether he wants to come.
“At the moment, it’s still just speculation but I think Hibs is a club that’s been very good for Scott and he’s been good for Hibs too,” he went on to add.
While Celtic are surely unlikely to enjoy a significant financial boost from moving Allan off the books, it would appear to be beneficial for all parties if a move could be agreed as quickly as possible.
Rodgers appears to have no intention of bringing him into the side, so moving him on and getting him off the wage bill this month has to be a smart move from the Scottish Premiership champions.
