Neil Lennon thinks there is interest in Celtic winger Scott Sinclair as the end of the English transfer window approaches, The Scottish Sun report.

Sinclair was entirely absent from the Hoops’ travelling squad to face Romanian champions CFR Cluj on Wednesday night, despite not being injured.

Lewis Morgan got the nod on the left flank and it’s become clear that Sinclair is pretty far down the pecking order in Lennon’s squad.

The Celtic boss admitted he simply couldn’t find a place for him ahead of the UEFA Champions League qualifying match.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw to The Scottish Sun, Lennon said: “I think there is interest. With a player of that quality I’m sure there will be.

“We couldn’t get him in the squad. We had a chat with Scotty on Monday and Tuesday before we left.

“We’ve got strength in depth there. It’s difficult to get him in the squad with the numbers we have.”

The Daily Record reported in July that Preston North End had a loan bid for player rejected, while Sheffield United were linked with a move for the player by The Sun in June.

Whether either side remains interested ahead of today’s 5pm deadline remains to be seen.

Scott Sinclair of Celtic celebrates his winning goal during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Hearts and Celtic on August 7, 2016 in Glasgow, Edinburgh.

Sinclair’s time at Celtic has been a massive success, with his consistent goal-scoring being a key part of the club’s ‘treble treble’ exploits over the last three seasons.

In total he’s scored 61 goals in Celtic colours since 2016.

The form of his first season will live long in the memory of many supporters as the Hoops earned the tag of ‘Invincibles’.

It’s an attacking threat that would likely have to be replaced if he does go.

Mikey Johnston is emerging as a prime pick on the left flank but still young and inexperienced, competition and depth would be needed.
