Neil Lennon has revealed to Herald Scotland that Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths is doing double training sessions every day in an effort to be fit before the season is finished.

Griffiths hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic since December after being given time off for personal reasons.

Lennon revealed last week that the 28-year-old marksman was hoping to be fit for the Hoops’ Scottish Cup final with Hearts at Hampden Park next month.

And now the Bhoys’ interim boss has shed light on the physical commitment undertaken by Griffiths to achieve that ambition.

He told Herald Scotland: “He is in training twice a day on his own at the minute. He still has to be integrated into the group so he is still a week or two away from that.

“It is a slow, meticulous routine of conditioning so he doesn’t break down again.”

Having Griffiths fit for the cup final could be massive.

After all, this is a player who scored 40 goals for Celtic during the 2015-16 campaign under Ronny Deila. Nobody in Scotland has come close to that since.

On his day, Griffiths is simply unplayable and having him available against Craig Levein’s side could well be the difference between a double and the historic Treble Treble.
