The Celtic ace has just three months remaining on his current deal.
When speaking to reporters, Celtic boss Neil Lennon delivered his biggest hint yet that he wants to keep Dedryck Boyata at Parkhead beyond the end of this season, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The 28-year-old’s current contract with the Hoops expires in the summer, and as things stand, his future with the Glasgow giants remains very much unclear.
The Belgian joined Celtic from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £1.5 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to make 133 appearances for the Scottish champions.
And when speaking to reporters, Lennon described Boyata as ‘outstanding’, suggesting that he likes the defender a lot as a player, as quoted by the Daily Record:
“We will sit down and discuss things. If things go well then they are important players. Boyata was outstanding for me the other night at Hearts, outstanding, and I like him a lot. I like him as a player.”
It will be in Celtic’s best interest to keep the former Man City ace, considering how much it will cost to replace a player of his calibre.
Whether Boyata will be looking for a fresh challenge, however, remains to be seen.
