Former Celtic boss expects his old club to beat Rangers to the title.

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon looks on during the Scottish Premier League match between Hibernian and Aberdeen at Easter Road on August 25, 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Celtic are one point behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table after a surprise turnaround in fortunes.

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon is confident that his old club will see off Rangers’ challenge and go on to win the title.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are taking criticism from all sides at the moment, with even the manager himself talking despondently in interviews.

Neil Lennon told BBC Sport he is not surprised that Rangers are challenging after overhauling their squad in the transfer window to support new manager Steven Gerrard.

He said: “I think, with the investment that Rangers have put into the squad and the improvement in other clubs, it was always likely that it would be far more competitive league this year than it has been for quite a while.

“I still think Celtic will win the league. I think they have the strength in depth and the quality of player.

“Just like everybody else, they are going through a little bit of a blip.”

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has not faced a challenge like this run of form since his arrival at the club in 2016 and this is a new challenge for him.

He needs to find a way to turn it around, and the threat of Rangers can actually be a positive.

With Hearts six points ahead of Celtic too, Rodgers’ side should not need any extra motivation in order to put their form right and retain their title.
