Leeds United should keep tabs on Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose.
Earlier this month, Hibernian manager Neil Lennon admitted to Deadline News Agency that the club could get offers for Efe Ambrose in the January transfer window.
Ambrose, who can operate as a central defender or as a right-back, has established himself as a key player for Hibernian and is playing well at the moment.
The Nigeria international is a former Celtic defender, and his knowledge of Scottish football is benefiting Hibs.
Deadline News Agency quoted Lennon as saying about Ambrose earlier this month: “It wouldn’t surprise me if there is interest in Efe. If he keeps playing the way he has been his stock will rise.”
“How long we can keep him for in this form, I don’t know,” added Lennon.
During his time at Celtic, Ambrose made some high-profile errors, but that should not deter Leeds United from making a move for the Nigerian defender in the January transfer window.
True, Ambrose signed a permanent contract with Hibs only in the summer of 2017 after spending the second half of last season on loan at Easter Road from Celtic, but in football anything is possible.
Leeds should at least keep tabs on Ambrose and see how he does between now and the start of the January transfer window.
The Championship club could do with an experienced and versatile defender, and making an offer for the 29-year-old would not be a bad idea.
After all, what’s the worse that could happen? Hibernian would reject it, but that is all part of the process of making signings.
Ambrose is a serial winner; he won the Nigerian Premier League with Bayelsa in 2009, the Scottish league title with Celtic four times and the Scottish Championship with Hibernian in 2017.
