Neil Lennon comments on Celtic’s Champions League chances

Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic will face Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht in the group stage of the Champions League this season.

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon has suggested to The42 that Celtic can progress to the last 16 of the Champions League this season.

Celtic will play in the group stage of the Champions League this campaign for the second season in a row.

Brendan Rodgers’s side have been drawn in Group B with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht.

Bayern and PSG are two of the biggest and most glamorous clubs in Europe, and also have two of the best squads in the world.

Anderlecht are not a bad team either, and it will be tough for Celtic to finish in the top two and progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Hibernian manager Lennon, who was in charge of Celtic from 2010 until 2014, though, believes that the Hoops can book a spot in the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition this season.

“It’s going to be very difficult, but Celtic Park can do funny things to teams at times,” Lennon told The42. “Celtic’s record at Celtic Park is phenomenal in the Champions League.

“I think they’ll do well against Anderlecht over the two games, so if they can pick up something (against the others), it’s not insurmountable.

“Sometimes you can catch these teams early off guard when they’re still bedding players in. The quality and depth that Bayern Munich have got is obviously phenomenal, but this Celtic team have improved.”

Winning against Bayern and PSG away from home is going to be very tough for Celtic, but they should give them a run for their money at Celtic Park.
