Celtic legend Henrik Larsson could reportedly be in line for a return to Parkhead in a coaching role.
The Scottish Sun reported at the weekend that Neil Lennon was considering trying to bring Henrik Larsson back to Celtic in a coaching role as he prepares for his first full season in his second spell as Hoops boss.
It was little surprise that Lennon got the job on a permanent basis once again after he helped the Bhoys to their third domestic Treble on the spin, with Lennon lifting both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup trophies.
But it is perhaps fair to say that appointing Lennon permanently was not a move that received the backing from all of the Celtic fans, with some feeling that it was an underwhelming decision and one that could see Celtic head back towards the pack having spent so long in complete control of the Scottish game.
Lennon will remain a popular figure whatever happens during his second spell given what he achieved during his first stint and as a player. But that rapport with the fans may not do him a lot of favours if they do not hit the ground running at the start of next season.
Larsson’s return would not change the landscape drastically. But it would ensure that there is another incredibly popular figure amongst the backroom team who would make it harder for the fans to turn on the manager if the door is opened for Rangers next term.
Bringing Larsson back as a coach could perhaps be the best way for Lennon to carry forward the momentum he gained from his caretaker stint before they get stuck into the transfer market.
