Neil Lennon has praised Celtic duo Scott Brown and Callum McGregor for ‘setting the tone’ against Rangers, whilst he backed Odsonne Edouard to have a ‘fabulous career’.

The Scottish Premiership champions maintained their 100% to the season on Sunday when they beat their Old Firm rivals 2-0 at Ibrox.

Edouard opened the scoring in the first half when he finished off Michael Johnston’s lovely through ball following a mistake from Connor Goldson. Then late into the game, Jonny Hayes finished off a swift counter-attack to seal the points.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (01/09/2019 at 2:15 pm), Lennon had nothing but praise for the manner in which his players went about things against their rivals.

“I thought my captain and McGregor, they really set the tone as you have to do,” Lennon told Sky Sports Football. “We were physical. I thought the referee had a great game when he needed to. Rangers were physical. But we came out on top and deservedly so.

Scott Brown of Celtic reacts during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 01, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“He’s [Edouard] had an outstanding 18 months now. He’s been a huger player for me when I came in from February onwards. He’s started the season in the same vein. He’s talented. He’s cold. He’s got great composure on the ball.

“His finish is typical. We are delighted with the progress he is making. He could go on to have a fabulous career.”

The defeat for Rangers is a real body blow so early on in the season because their supporters were expecting a better performance and result.

But in the end, Lennon out thought his opponents and set-up Celtic in a brilliant manner on the day, as they go into the international break sitting on top of the Premiership table.
