Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers lost the 39-year-old back in 2013.
Neil Alexander has told The Record he is pleased for the “amazing” Rangers fans that the Ibrox club is back in the top flight.
Rangers are gearing up for their second season back in the Scottish Premiership in what was a long and hard battle back to the big time.
Alexander was with the Gers in 2012 at the height of their financial collapse, and remained in Glasgow for another year when the Old Firm giants – then under Ally McCoist – were back on their feet.

The 39-year-old left Ibrox in 2013 after claiming that he was promised a two-year deal and only a 12-month contract was offered, joining Crystal Palace and, bitterly for Rangers supporters, Hearts and later Aberdeen.
Nevertheless, Alexander remains a favourite with large sections of the fanbase, in spite of his time at other Scottish Premiership clubs, and told The Record that he is delighted to see them back in the top tier.
He said: “Rangers fans are amazing. I feel they appreciate what I did for the club in six years, even if they don’t know what happened behind the scenes that season.
“I can have an opinion now I’m no longer with Aberdeen or Hearts and I’m absolutely delighted for Rangers and their fans to see the club back on an even keel.
“Scottish football will also be all the better for having a strong Rangers challenging Celtic, along with Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs.”
Rangers have made nine summer signings under manager Pedro Caixinha so far as they look to improve on their 2016-17 campaign.
Under Mark Warburton for much of the season, the Gers finished third and a disappointing 39 points behind Celtic, but that gap could and should be bridged next time around.
