Newcastle United fans should be relaxed over the Aleksandar Mitrovic situation.

Newcastle United fans have been expressing their frustration as loanee Aleksandar Mitrovic has embarked on an unstoppable run of goalscoring form over the past few weeks.

The Serbian has scored nine goals in his last eight games for club and country, since being loaned to Fulham on deadline day.

Who knew he could be so prolific?

Certainly not Newcastle, and while it is easy to criticise the Magpies for their decision, the situation is actually working out pretty well for them.

Mitrovic was not getting game time at Newcastle – he had just six substitute appearances in the Premier League.

If Newcastle had simply kept him around, Mitrovic would not likely have been given the chances he has been afforded at Fulham.

Rafa Benitez deserves some criticism for failing to utilise the Serbian, but this should be offset by simply giving Mitrovic credit for his performances, which are better than any he has delivered for Newcastle on a consistent basis.

While Newcastle are still battling to fight off relegation, they are currently well placed in 13th. The decision is currently unlikely to be a critical one.

This way, Newcastle are learning more about Mitrovic, who could be a key asset for them in the future.

By sending him out on loan they have unlocked his confidence, and the club should be realising just what he is capable of. Benitez will not want to make the same mistake next season in deciding not to use him properly.

But if Newcastle really did want to cut ties, now is the time, they can sell high and cash in.

Either are ideal scenarios for the Toon, they are getting back a player at the top of his game. Next season they will either have a top attacker in their ranks, or millions in the bank.

Newcastle should be thankful for Mitrovic’s form, as if he wasn’t delivering, they would really be stuck for ideas with what to do with him next season.
