David Seaman has claimed that the Leeds United players’ reaction to Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking had a ‘negative vibe’ about it, as he told his own podcast.

The former England goalkeeper added that Bielsa was very well-liked by everyone at the club and suggested that Leeds were possibly wrong in ending his near four-year reign at Elland Road.

It’s probably a toss-up between Bielsa and Kalvin Phillips as to who is the more popular in Yorkshire, but the Argentine is near the top.

The Leeds boss, after guiding the club back to the promised land after nearly two decades, gained legendary status from the supporters.

As a result, Seaman was hurt by the call to sack Bielsa, as he warned Jesse Marsch that he has ‘a lot to do’.

“I was gutted,” said Seaman. “I am not the only one. Apparently, they (Leeds fans) were demonstrating outside of the training ground at Leeds.

“How often does that happen? Where fans don’t want the manager to be sacked? I felt it was really harsh. He’s had three brilliant seasons. Okay, it’s not got as good as we thought this season.

“But when you have had your spine ripped out of your team, as long as we had, and a lot of Leeds fans were saying this, they would rather go down with Bielsa.

“Even with the players, with the way they have come out on social media saying how they liked Bielsa. That feel that it has got like a negative vibe about it. The new guy Jesse Marsch, he has a lot to do.”

It’s a new dawn for Leeds with Marsch now in charge and it’s an away clash at Leicester City as his first assignment.

The Leeds faithful will be hoping they will be Marsching on Together towards the Premier League and beyond in the summer, rather than heading back down to the lower leagues of English football.

Even though so many things were going wrong under Bielsa, the fact of the matter is that the spine of his team had been ripped out because of injuries.

Those players – Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper – are going to be crucial in how well things go for Marsch because the trio are the glue Leeds fans have been waiting for to return.
