James Maddison has stated on his Instagram story that Declan Rice’s celebration ‘needs work’ after West Ham’s 4-1 win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Leicester City playmaker praised Rice for his long-range goal at Villa Park and labelled it a ‘great hit’.

Added with Rice putting West Ham back into the lead in the first half, he also assisted during the game and was probably the best player on the park.

David Moyes’s side went into the break with a deserved 2-1 lead, and inside the first few minutes of the second half, Villa were down to ten men.

Despite that man advantage, Villa were the better team, until the Hammers hit them with a number of sucker punches towards the end.

Maddison was enjoying the game from the comfort of his own home and he sent Rice this following message:

“Great hit mate @declanrice,” said Maddison. “Smoothness of the knee slide needs work.”

Not many defensive-minded players can claim to be better than Rice, at this moment in time.

The England international has been progressing faster than Jarrod Bown running towards the opposition’s goal on a counter attack.

It could be argued that he is one of the best midfielders in Europe right now, with the proof being his performance in the Premier League, in Europe and at Euro 2020.

With the manner in which West Ham are playing, if they don’t put a trophy in their cabinet this season, whether it’s the Europa League, League Cup or FA Cup.

Then, they will be hugely disappointed because they are in such a brilliant position to do so.
