Kevin Campbell told the Highbury Squad Podcast that Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos hasn’t hit the heights of last season.
The Sky Sports pundit thinks Ceballos should be ‘better’ this season and if Arsenal are to move forward then their midfield ‘needs upgrading’.
Ceballos is on-loan from Real Madrid and there’s no doubt that the Spanish giants would want a large sum for the 24-year-old if they part ways with him.
And Campbell has hinted that he wouldn’t have him at the club next season given that he has gone backwards compared to the last campaign.
“I don’t think Ceballos has hit the heights that he did in his first season,” said Campbell. “There’s nothing wrong in saying that.
“He should be better this season than he was in his first season. Maybe, he had a lot to prove (in his first season)? And the way we finished the season, of course, winning the trophy. He was excellent with Xhaka, at times.
“It needs upgrading. If we are going to be a team that is being built to challenge. Yes, of course, we do need players who can be a lot more consistent.”

When Ceballos played with Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka recently, he did look much better in Arsenal’s midfield.
Perhaps playing with more forward-thinking players, quick-thinkers, players with better technique and the ability to play those one-two’s suits Ceballos’ game more.
But given that he’s still not a regular after nearly two seasons, the writing is pretty clear on the wall.
