Stan Collymore has aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Roy Keane over his comments about Aston Villa and England midfielder Jack Grealish.
The Three Lions lost the final of Euro 2020 on penalties last night as Italy lifted the trophy at Wembley.
Nineteen-year-old Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka missed the decisive penalty and pundit Keane criticised the Aston Villa star – and Raheem Sterling – after the game for not taking one.
Grealish insisted on Twitter that he did, in fact, offer to be among the first five players to take on Gianluigi Donnarumma from 12 yards.
And former Aston Villa hitman Collymore has claimed that some pundits need to ‘shut their mouths’ after being told by Grealish himself that he was up for the responsibility.
Fair play
England boss Gareth Southgate has said on a couple of occasions that he and he alone is responsible for the shootout, defeat which is right.
After all, he is the one who selects the penalty takers and which order they go in.
But fair play to Grealish. Even when playing with Aston Villa, the 25-year-old isn’t the type to shy away from responsibility, so perhaps Keane should have considered other possibilities before launching head first into the criticism.
