Roy Keane has suggested on ITV that he hasn’t actually been entirely impressed by Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane’s recent displays.

Kane has seen his Tottenham future discussed heavily again this week, and the striker did very little to quash the suggestions that he could depart.

The England captain said that he would assess his future in the summer, rather than think about it right now, in recent interview.

While Kane was giving very little away, Ian Wright says that if he was a Tottenham fan he would be upset by the comments.

“In 2018, before the World Cup, he didn’t even give himself time to maybe win a golden boot and then have even more leverage to negotiate a contract. He signed a six-year deal until 2024,” Wright said.

“For him to be talking about his contract now, if I’m Spurs I’m a little bit upset, simply because he was happy to sign it then for six years.

“So now he’s throwing things up in the air and, for me, I’m not keen.”

But Keane retorted, and suggested that losing Kane could actually work out in Tottenham’s favour, if the money is reinvested wisely.

“Yeah but just because you sign a contract doesn’t mean to say you stay there. Let’s then give the club a bit of power,” the former Manchester United man added.

“At least then Tottenham can say ‘okay then, we can get £150 million for him’ and everyone wins, that can happen.

“He wouldn’t be the first player to sign a contract and then want to move a year or two later.

“There’s parts of Kane’s games I’ve looked at recently, where they were knocked out of Europe, where I’m thinking he’s the captain of the club, we need a bit more from you.”

Kane was indeed quiet in recent Tottenham defeats to Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb, but judging him on those two performances after a remarkable season seems harsh.

Kane leads the way in both the Premier League’s scoring and assist charts, and also scored on his latest outing for England.

The Tottenham striker has enjoyed one of the finest campaigns of his career, and he remains practically irreplaceable for Spurs.

Daniel Levy will surely fight hard to keep his star man in the summer.

And even after his latest comments, the most likely scenario still seems to be that Kane will remain at Tottenham next season.
