Rangers have secured Steven Gerrard as their new manager, and it once again promises to be an action-packed summer for the Gers as another new era beckons.

Gerrard, 37, has been brought in as a permanent replacement for Pedro Caixinha following his October exit, and after Graeme Murty’s stint as interim boss was brought to an end last week.

Gerrard will hope to be given the funds to attract new signings this summer, and whilst he can surely bring in talented players just from his name alone, he will also have the input of director of football Mark Allen.

Allen may look to bring in players he worked with at former club Manchester City, having brought in Aaron Nemane last summer, and one player appears to fit the bill.

Queens Park Rangers captain Nedum Onuoha has this week announced that he is leaving the club this summer as a free agent, and the 31-year-old should certainly be on Allen’s radar this summer.

Onuoha joined City back in 2004 and spent eight years with the club, and was in and around the first team during Allen’s stint at the Etihad Stadium, with a reunion potentially ideal.

With Rangers set to lose David Bates to Hamburg, whilst Russell Martin, Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves may not be with the club next season, up to three centre backs may be needed this summer, and one must be a leader to help nurture youngster Ross McCrorie.

Onuoha has bags of experience at 31 and has been a proven leader at QPR, whilst his free agent status should be hugely appealing to Allen and co given that the Rangers chief saw him so closely at City.
